Perhaps maybe this year we can finally...
Hmm, well, I won't make any promises yet.
It's now January 2017, which means it'll have been four years since the game's release. Quite a long time, huh?
Perhaps maybe this year we can finally... Hmm, well, I won't make any promises yet.

(Names have been censored for privacy purposes.) B: Okay so I'm going through the digimon PSP game and goddamn it they have multiple sidequests to build graves for allied digimon. Why does this series do this to me. ;_; A: "Press X repeatedly to roll the body in!" B: well at least they disintegrate A: How hard is it to gather clumps of dirt and some sticks? A: Or do you have to go to Tom Nook's Coffin Corner? B: No they go all-out in the game. Flowers. In Sprial Mountain's apocalyptic landscape. A: Do they let you pick who they're for if you don't get enough? B: Don't think so, they're seperate quests. A: Aw. I'd rather it be "You only collected (2) Flowers. Please select which sacrifices meant the most to you: - Wizarmon - Chuumon - Piccolomon - Whamon - Leomon B: looooooool A: - Thousands of Numemon who followed their invented god to their deaths B: ok, I pick them and Leomon! B: sorry Wizarmon A: Your relationship with [Hikari] is -1. By the way, we finished the (technical) editing process that preps the text to be injected into the game, so good stuff! Still working on those side translations. Things are looking good!
Deep Dive's informed me some progress has been made on the hacking end (including fancy things like the O and X button swap, font adjustment, and some system menu translation), so things are looking nicely on that end!
I still haven't found a translator to help and things are kind of looking bad on that end, so once again, please email me at kazakazarin (at) gmail (dot) com if you can translate Japanese to English and have a willingness to help! Yep, it's the moment you've all been waiting for: after multiple passes, re-edits, and late nights with coffee, barring any severe translation errors or typographical issues, the translation for all the story text is now complete!
Honestly, there's a lot I could say about this. This is something I should have honestly finished at least a year ago, with the fact it took this long mainly being attributable to my life getting a lot more hectic than expected, a lot of miscommunication, and (more often than not) my own laziness. And to be quite honest, there are a lot of people who could have done this job far better than I did. I'm still very inexperienced as a translator, and I'm sure there are questionable translations and some bad wording in the script still in there. But I did the best I could deliver without needlessly delaying this project more than it's been already, and I hope it's at least serviceable enough of a product to be workable for all you Digimon lovers out there. I really want to take a moment to give my gratitude to Egal, who translated a good chunk of the very last part of the game and saved me a ton of time and mental effort; to birdboy2000, my lovely editor who threw out all the awkward "Japanese-isms" I'd left in the earlier stages of the translation due to my inexperience and made it into something an English speaker could actually read without wincing; to Sorakairi, who put up with my delays and lack of information during the worst periods of my work ethic and gave me all the resources I needed to do this properly; to all the friends on Discord who supported me during the process; and to all of you, who were patient enough to sit through all this, with how little information I was giving on the site. I honestly don't think I could have made it to the end without you guys. I, myself, learned quite a bit from this project while I was working on it. So what now? The story text is translated, but there's still a long way to go. We've got to get all the text in the actual game, which is easier said than done since the text isn't exactly in the most organized format, and moreover there's still a bit of text to go - the menus and tutorials need to be retranslated, the episode descriptions need to be translated, and there's a whole Digimon encyclopedia in there hanging over our heads. Moreover, I need to clean up my translator's notes to be in a presentable format. Unfortunately, this is where I'll probably have to drop most of my involvement in the project from here on out; I had to pull some miracles to have been able to finish this now, and at this stage in my life I simply don't have the time to dedicate to this project that I did when I first started. The menus are easy for me, and the folks at Deep Dive have a nice system set up for inserting text, but I doubt I can carry both the episode descriptions and the encyclopedia by myself. Of course, I will continue to do translation supervision and overall editing for the final project; I was the one who agreed to do this, and I will see it to the end. Right now, we still need more translators, so if you're interested, please drop me a line at kazakazarin (at) gmail (dot) com (and seriously, please drop me a line if you're actually interested, because I got a lot of people who offered to do script editing who ended up having access to our files and doing nothing). Once again, thank you all for your patience. I'll keep you updated once we hit another benchmark. "...and are you there like you promised?"
After rescheduling things left and right, and with the help of my wonderful new editor, and at least one translator who helped quite a bit...it would be a lie to say that I'll have all the text at the exact end of July 31 like I promised. That said, we're still mostly on schedule, so even if it's not exactly on July 31 it'll at least be within the first week of August or so (and if it doesn't look like it'll go that way, I'll just have to pull a few more all-nighters). As soon as that point is reached, the text will be in final draft mode, which means that barring any severe mistranslations or typos, the text will not be edited any further (regardless of how much my perfectionism may want to see it changed). Now, of course, that still means there'll still be much to be done. All the text being translated means that all the text will need to be inserted into the actual game and promptly bugtested - although the folks at Deep Dive seem to have a very efficient process ironed out. On top of that, that's all the story text; there's still the game text, and unfortunately Bandai Namco and Prope love to torture me by putting the whole Digimon encyclopedia in there. Still, this is a much more solid place than we've been anywhere in the last while, which makes me very happy. Personally, since I will be a much busier girl after this summer ends, I'd like to get my end of the work done by then...and perhaps we can shoot for beta testing and possibly even a final release by the end of the year...? Oh, but don't take my word for it. Anything can happen, and I'm not sure I really should be getting your hopes up. But still, I'm so thankful to all of you for waiting patiently. I'll do my best from this end. o/ So, the first solid good news in a while!
The wonderful people at Deep Dive have recently found a way to give me significant help in the translator's process, and with the help of my new proofreaders and the fact school should be finishing up soon, I am setting a slightly optimistic benchmark of having all the text translated by the end of July. I say "slightly optimistic" because I don't think you should be surprised if it rolls around and I end up saying that there was a lot more text than expected and we'll have to take a little longer. That said, though, we have a lot clearer direction of where we're going now and school has gotten much easier for me so I expect I'll be able to work at the same quick pace I did when I first started the project. And of course, putting a deadline on myself will make me willing to work much faster. Sadly, I am a person who does in fact have a life other than translating a PSP game for kids with priorities that must take precedence over this, such as "a social life", "personal enjoyment hobbies", "school", and "dealing with the fact I'm running out of money and therefore trying to find a way to make more, which also takes up more time". Now, when I said all the text should be translated by the end of July, I didn't mean the patch will be finished by the end of July. Deep Dive is a very hard-working group and they're also aiming to have much of their work done by that time, but at this stage neither of us can make any guarantees, and there are other things we'll have to take care of. Of course, I can provide more accurate information once we get to that stage. Thank you to everyone who's assisting so I don't have to functionally one-man this anymore! Hopefully we can make something that's worth the wait. I'm happy to announce that progress is continuing splendidly. We have at least two more proofreaders on board and we're going at the fastest we've been in a long time.
While I'm still recruiting both proofreaders and translators, I'd like to put an emphasis on the fact that we really do need more translators. Again, please contact me at kazakazarin (at) gmail (dot) com if you're interested! We of this project greatly mourn the passing of Kouji Wada, one of the most important names for the Digimon franchise who's shaped much of what this franchise is now, and give our condolences to his friends and family.
Unfortunately, despite the fact I would certainly like otherwise, I'm a student and I go to school and school is a lot of work, and at this stage if I continue at the pace I am now you're not going to see this patch for another three years. I've been pretty lax about recruitment up until now, but I've been putting a huge burden on everyone who's helping me when I go for weeks without an update. Over half the text has been translated; this project should not be going as slowly as it is, so this is really shameful on my end.
Since I figured the last recruitment post might have been a bit too restrictive, I'm now looking for two kinds of people, proofreaders and assistant translators. Proofreaders
Translators
Again, if you're interested, please drop me a line at kazakazarin (@) gmail (.) com, or send a message to my Tumblr. Thank you! Snippet of text from chapter 1. The italics denote text from the last time I sent a draft to xhai; the bold denotes the current version (which is still subject to change).
